Motown records were first released in the UK on
the Philips Fontana Label and then on
John Schroeder's
Oriole label. Later they were released on the
Stateside label, then after
Dave Godin's
effort it became a label in its own right in March 1965 with the first
release - Stop In The Name Of Love by
The Supremes (No1 USA at
the time).
Tamla Motown records were played at most of the Manchester clubs but the soul clubs would be
very selective about which tracks were played - Smokey Robinson,
The
Temptations and The Four Tops being particular favourites.
