Ann Peebles is a superb soul artist and followed Walk Away with a few others notably BREAKING UP,  SOMEBODY'S HOME (1972) and I CAN'T STAND THE RAIN (in 1974). She started out singing in her father's church choir at an early age as well as The Peeble Choir which was started by her grandfather.

Ann Peebles was the major female star at Willie Mitchell's Memphis-based Hi Records during the '70s. Al Green was the label's major male star. Listen to the backing on I Can't Stand the Rain and then listen to Al Green's How Can You Mend A Broken Heart and the Willie Mitchell influence becomes obvious.

It is a little known fact that John Lennon liked lots of soul artists - his favourite male singer was Chuck Jackson and he was quoted as stating his favourite female soul singers as Ann Peebles singing I Can't Stand The Rain (covered by Tina Turner).
