Barbara Lewis

Born 9th February 1943 - South Lyon, Michigan.

Barbara Lewis's Hello Stranger was a perennial track on the Manchester soul scene. It also reached no. 3 in the USA in 1963. Barbara had written a number of songs, starting out as a teenager. Ollie McLaughlin, who was involved in the careers of Del Shannon, the Capitols, and Deon Jackson, helped her out.

Barbara Lewis wrote all of the songs on her first LP including Hello Stranger and The Dells helped on some of the backing harmonies. Someday We're Gonna Love Again, was covered by the UK sixties pop group, The Searchers. By the mid-'60s, Barbara did a few recordings in New York City, with help from producers like Bert Berns and Jerry Wexler, that had orchestral arrangements. The results were Baby I'm Yours and Make Me Your Baby both big hits and feature on compilation CDs such as Lady Sings The Blues.

Barbara recorded an album in the late '60s for Stax (Enterprise).
