WHEN LOVE SLIPS AWAY - Mercury UK
WE'RE DOING FINE - Blue Rock (4027) 1965

Dee Dee Warwick recorded two massive soul hits which were played regularly at the Blue Note Club in Manchester. They may also have been played at the Twisted Wheel but I never once heard them there, but always did at the Blue Note (I should know I was playing them!)

Dee Dee (Delia Mae) Warwick recorded You're No Good originally - before Betty Everett. Yes, Dee Dee is the younger sister of Dionne Warwick, and was a member of the Drinkard Singers in the 1950s, a gospel group, along with sisters Dionne and Cissy (Houston) and later appeared with Doris Troy in the Gospelaires.

She recorded songs between 1965 - 67 for Mercury: I'm Gonna Make You Love Me (later a hit for The Supremes and the Temptations),  Do It With All Of Your Heart and Monday, Monday. WHEN LOVE SLIPS AWAY and WE'RE DOING FINE (1966) are great examples of classic soul ballads. If these where recorded again today by Lisa Stansfield, or Joss Stone they would be certain top ten hits. Dee Dee was a greatly underrated singer. Her version of Elvis's Suspicious Minds (1970) is simply magnificent! She joined the Sweet Inspirations in 1967.

She recorded for Leiber and Stoller's Tiger label and recorded the original version of what was to become the Betty Everett hit You're No Good - this was for Jubilee in 1964. The song was also covered by the Swinging Blue Jeans in the UK who had a top ten hit with it.

1965 We're Doing Fine reached 28 in the US R 'n B charts.

1966 at Mercury I Want To Be With You (72584) (A song from a musical Golden Boy) reached number 9 on the R 'n B charts. I'm Gonna Make You Love Me (72638) (later covered by Diana Ross & The Supremes in 1969 making it a huge hit).
1967 When Love Slips Awa' (72667)
1969 Foolish Fool (72880) and That's Not Love (72927)
1970 Dee Dee joined Atlantic / ATCO
1970-71 She Didn't Know She Kept On Talking (Atco 6754), A Cold Night In Georgia (Atco 6796) and Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds (Atco 6810).
