far the song
Knock on Wood was Eddie Floyd's greatest achievement. Knock on Wood
was head and shoulders above all the other soul sounds at the time of its
release. At the
Twisted Wheel, it was requested
with great frequency without the crowd tiring of it. Everyone on the dance floor would invisibly knock on wood when the
drums tapped out that knocking riff. At his appearance at the Palace Theatre Stax/Otis Show he rocked the place with
Raise Your Hand coming off stage into
the audience and getting everyone's hands up.
Eddie Floyd was a friend of Al Bell and and joined Stax as a
composer writing for Atlantic's
Wilson
Pickett and for other Stax artists including
Carla
Thomas,
William Bell,
Otis
Redding (originally Knock on Wood co-written with Steve Cropper was
for Otis).
Eddie wrote many of the Stax stables hits.
He makes a great appearance in the
Blues Brothers 2000 film
with Wilson Picket singing on
6345789.
