After
the heady days of original soul Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes
became very successful. A great act and had such a group been around in the mid
sixties, without a doubt they would have been played extensively at the
Manchester soul clubs. However, the 'Northern' scene ignored them as if they didn't
exist. I wonder why. Could it be they were too popular? Too Easy to obtain their
records? And if so it means that the Northern Soul scene had degenerated to a
cult not a scene that liked great soul music but only rare soul music. Surely
not.
