YOU REALLY GOT ME
All Day And All Of The Night
Ray
Davis wrote some of the best UK blues and Rock all in a completely English way,“You Really Got Me” was a blaster of a track and a big hit in
Manchester at the
time, and often played intermittently in the latter 1960’s. It was one of the
tracks I remember as I queued on the stairs of the Twisted Wheel Club,
Brazennose Street on one of my first visits.
You Really Got Me was a similar sound to
Louie Louie by the
Kingsmen.
In fact like
almost everyone at the time, The Kinks did a version on their first e.p.
The Kinks appeared live at the
Twisted Wheel, wearing their purple
satin suits and knee length boots! Even so they got the place rocking with their
clanging riffs. They came to fame playing for very posh parties, hence their
tendency to wear red hunting jackets on many occasions.
